I'm just a young girl minding my own business. The new rules of random stop and search in subways and buses...is this necessary?

The subway has thousands of entrances that terrorists can get thru with no detection. Does Bush think manning only a handful of entrances is going to stop a terrorist?
Soon the govt will have the right to stop me anytime anywhere to seach my bag for NO APPARENT REASON. I was just WALKING for godsake!
MEANWHILE, MEXICAN AND CANADIAN BORDERS ARE WIDE OPEN!! WHO'S MANNING THE BORDERS?

it's all a strategy to make people feel "safer." you know, like the seatbelts on airplanes. think about it, if they didn't implement these annoying measures, there would be someone else bitchin about how nothing is being done & we're all in danger of a terrorist attack. you can't win.

Aw, did you get delayed by a minute or two? I would think that you'd be grateful that someone cares enough to make sure that you're safe when you ride public transportation as that seems to be a favorite target of terrorists.

Now, what makes you think that the President has anything to do with what the NYPD does in the way of Public Safety? If I'm not mistaken, they work for the Municipal Government of New York City, not the Federal Government. And what makes you think that there's any connection between the NYPD, a Municipal Police Department, and the Border Patrol, a Federal Agency?

I think you just wanted to rant against the President.

It's called PROBABLE CAUSE and has nothing to do with national borders.
Better that they just search your bag there and NOT detain you than to carry you to the nearest police station to determine your innocence. YOU may be "minding your own business" but the police don't know that. They don't read minds.
You don't say how BIG your bag was, but if you are carrying a bag that is much larger (or very different) than what the general public around you is using, then you will stand out in the view of law enforcement. If everyone else had a bag like yours, the police could not stop everyone.
The police did NOT single you out - that would be harrassment.

Welcome to the brave new world of security
What price is this security anyway ?? The total desolution of all personal liberties and rights to any privacy at all ??

We were told after 9 / 11 in Major promotional fashion that if we changed a single thing about the way we did ANYTHING
because of those attacks--- it would mean that the terrorists had won !!!!! Remember ???
Then the government proceeds to change EVERYTHING ABOUT EVERYTHING and starts selling it as "security " ----are they telling us the the terrorists DID win ???

It is just a Major Lucky Stroke that Hitler and Stalin did not know that they could destroy the freedoms and liberties of this nation with ten men and three aircraft or we would every one of us be speaking Nazi-fied German OR totalitarian Russian right today !!!!!

So, buckle up children-- this seems to be the beginnings of something that is anything but pleasant---- for Who does it matter to--- if the gestapo agent giving you a full body search for no reason in some subway or airport has an American flag on his sleeve or a swastika when it comes down to the demeaning and unAmerican nature of the THING it is still totally out of line with everything this country was founded on and way past the point that it should--- every nickle of it--- be reeled in !!!!!!!!

The Bill of Rights is written in straightforward and simple language. I just don't understand why so many judges and legislators have difficulty understanding it.

AMENDMENT IV

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Oops. Some people in the Senate and House of Representatives must not have ever read this one. If they had read it then they wouldn't have voted for the PATRIOT Act. I wonder if they can be removed from office because they violated their oath to protect the Constitution?

As you can easily see, when this type of question is asked, this nonsense is wholeheartedly supported by COWARDS who would rather FEEL safe than be FREE.
