Clean your machine. Friend of mine had the same problem, hoovered and cleaned inside the PC and found the dust and fluff inside was causing all kinds of problems, after cleaning the machine it ran much quieter and faster.
Of course all the normal stuff like emptying cache via Internet options, defragmenting the Hard-Drive and clearing all unwanted snoopers by using Ad-Aware or the like etc. should be done first.
If this doesnt help, then I suggest as the following posts.

The best way is to download Ccleaner here http://bitly.com/UrALrK
Or you can go on Windows operating system locate the command prompt and go there to do the following:
Create a Recovery file of system and date it today.
Then begin by;
delete the 'Temp' folders..they have hidden subfolders so you need to set the attributes in order to bypass this. For each subfolder delete all cookies and rubbish left behnd after install-uninstalled programs. Do a 'dir' command to check your progress. Make sure the 'Temp' file is empty.
goto c:\windows\prefetch and delete everything in there..no exceptions
goto c:\windows folder and delete all the '$' files that have been installed by updates. They can all be succesfully deleted and just take up disk space.
Locate the Internet Temporary Files..Check to see how high the saving level is..some have it set at 30 days..but that stores faaaar tooo much data..though it slows down the system overal. Keep this to a minimum..suggest 2 or 5 at most.
Delete all 'cookies' all those you don't need.
Locate the windows directory and go through the folders you know and those you don't need. Check this once a week at least. Some programs will install under XP as NT and older systems where there is no check of systems weight.
Check to see that system files have not changed since last booting. Things like .ini files or .bat are important items.
Check for 'Hidden Directories' all over the disk...do this at the command prompt:
dir *.* /ah wil show these hidden directories
Check the 'dir' command for all parameters

You can download ccleaner for free here: http://bit.ly/1Bk5V5C
First open CCleaner
Go to the Cleaner tab and you will be confronted by a very confusing lineup of checkboxes.
To make this brief, below is my recommended setup:
Under internet explorer check temporary internet files, cookies, and last download location. Most users don't really need this stuff. keep history and bookmarks unchecked, history is a maybe, but you don't want to lose bookmarked sites. You can normally leave Windows Explorer, System, and Advanced alone.
Run CCleaner and it will start deleting files.
afterward it will present you with a list of the files deleted, you really don't need to go through it as it will be several pages long.
The registry cleaner is recommended for slightly more advanced users. Use it after uninstalling programs as they will often leave behind incorrect registry entries.
If you decide to run Registry cleaner then review the items detected and always back up the registry (I keep a folder aside for this)
The Tools tab lets you uninstall programs and set startup programs. Why do you need this if Windows has all of these features? Especially with Vista Home Ed. The windows defender software explorer( startup programs) doesn't pick up some entries (however software explorer is easier to use).
Using CCleaner to uninstall programs and then check for leftover registry entries takes less time.
Under Options you can determine how CCleaner cleans your files. I leave this alone.

One other suggestion - defragment your drive. Go to My Computer, right-click and choose properties, then the Tools tab, and Defragment. Close all other programs, and once you start the defrag, just walk away from the machine and let it run - don't try and do other stuff on it at the same time, it will keep having to defragment the bits you are working on if you do that!
If the analysis still looks a bit spread out, you can run it again.

there's a large loose application noted as CCleaner which cleans up unused records. additionally see what all is working on your laptop, bypass to the beginning up menu, then run and form in msconfig. this supply you many tabs, look into the start up tab and spot which courses you do no longer choose working at start up (as an occasion Norton or Yahoo messenger, etc.) this might speed up your laptop a great deal. good success.

It could be programs that load while your pc starts up.
Go to the start button, then run....type MSCONFIG, then there should be a startup option, try removing programs that you use from there. Make sure you dont take something off that isnt needed to start your pc up.

A) the worst culprit is a microsoft generated popup that says "this is not a genuine version of windows" it usually pesters you by slowing down the speed of computers.
B) it might be that your disk drive is full (to many programs and processes to start) or you have told your computer to do "things" at the start. For more info email me at aaditotjo@gmail.com (not yahoo)

go to run and type msconfig then on the startup tab at the end take a tick out of all the things you dont need to have on the startup. You only really need your firewall and antivirus starting with windows.

Regular disk clean up and defragmenting.
Hit start, then all programs, then accessories and then system tools these can be found there.
If that does not help download AVG free edition anti virus and do a scan.
Hope that helps : )
