I need 300 words to describe the terms independant an dependant variables. I have this so far:
The terms Independent and dependent variable are used in scientific experiments (But they are also used in maths equations). The independent variable (also known as the predictor or manipulated variable), is the variable which is changed or manipulated so that its effect on the dependant variable can be seen, the independent variable is the one you have some control over. The dependant variable is the variable that changes depending on the independent variable. The variable you are trying to predict is the dependant variable. The variable you use to determine these variables in the independent variable.

What else could I add? You help woul dbe much appreciated :)

You could give an example
i.e give a brief description of a experiment and state the dependent and independent variable in this particular example.
If you do this it will use a lot of words aswell as showing you have a real world grasp of the concept

The self reliant variable is the variable whose replace consequences interior the replace of alternative variables. for this reason the pupil controls the temperature, that's the self reliant variable and can be plotted on the x-axis on a common bar chart. The replace in temperature impacts the solubility of the sugar, making the quantity of sugar dissolved the based variable. the quantity of water is often 100mL, and is a persevering with.

I wouldn't get too carried away talking about experiments as this is irrelevant to the question. You could maybe mention that they are known as IV and DV respectively, but the main point as you already have is that the IV is what the experimenter manipulates and the DV is what is affected. you could maybe mention an example just showing that you know how it works by stating the possible units of measurement like weight (DV) would be affected by calorie consumption (IV). I'm really suprised you have 300 words for this question as it is such a short answer, but remember 300 is likely to be the limit and you dont need to use it all, markers tend to like short concise answers -quality rather than quantity. if you know how many points are awarded to this question I would use that as a guide, ie- if the question is worth 3 marks, make sure you have mentioned 3 distinct points.

independent variable is the input - the thing that you change
dependent variable is the output - the thing that you measure
