Okay.
We will go over ground rules.
Never tell anyone anything about you. EVER. Not your name, your parents names, where you live, nothing.
Alot of people will do your "forgot password", and then get friendly with you, all the while they are just getting info out of you to hack your account. Best rule of thumb - Don't trust anyone.
Secondly. Never goto any site someone on here says, the Rune Gold, Gold Runescape, none of them. They are all pretty much guaranteed to be key loggers.
Do not ever download any programs that will help you on Runescape. They wont help you, they will help the hacker.
This includes world changers, stat calculators (downloaded ones), and other miscellaneous files.
The bank pin helps but isn't even necessary if you take the right precautions.
A final word of advice, do not add people on MSN, AIM, YAHOO, or ICQ from Runescape, they may try sending you a virused file.
Good luck

You should always have your recoveries set, especially if you are a member. Make sure your password is a mix of random numbers and letters. You can take 10 random letters of the alphabet, and 10 random number digits, mix em up, and use this for your pass. It's also a good idea to change your pass every few months or so, just in case.
Never ever use the same name or pass on other sites. Never even try to access "private runescape servers" or sites that promise to make you a moderator. These only exist to steal your account details. (I know about these full well from reading the forums, many players get hacked using them.)
Don't use any third party clients to log into runescape, not only are they illegal (might get you banned) but I had one , swift switch, that actually contained a keylogger. Lucky I deleted it, and changed my details immediately.
Most hacks occur with either a friend finding your password written down, or a keylogger that sneaks onto your computer.
To keep safe from hackers on runescape (I've belonged for 2 years with no hacks at all!) Have a good working firewall, you can get one free, Runescape has a list of free antivirus and firewall software in their safety and security section.Have a good antivirus working. Keep these both updated automatically, if possible.
Never write down your password where anyone can find it, give it to your parents for safekeeping, if you cannot remember it.
Get a PIN for your bank, make it easy to remember or look up if you forget, like your favorite band members', or a famous historical figure's birth date. Something even your best friends would never guess. And don't tell anyone what it is, ever.
Never give your password to anyone online who claims to be staff or a player moderator. They would never ask this information, as Jagex has your account details already, so why ask? There's also no such thing as "undercover" staff or moderators. Anyone making this claim should be immediately reported, and ignored.
I hope that all of these tips keep you safe, as they have kept me safe for two years straight!

Ohhhh I was hacked once on runescape also. I don't know how they did it, but they did. Here is what you do. My password is very long and the most stupidest phrase you will ever see in your life. It's HILARIOUS too. If it's VERY LONG (20 letters if plenty enough) and maybe has a stupid phrase in it then the odds of you getting hacked are 1-1,000,000,000

Dont worry about being hacked. All you need to do is think of a password no one would ever think of, something stupid. It works except dont do anything with your name. My friend was stupid so I hacked him lol. Never lend your friend 60k either. You'll never get it back.
