Get some mint oil and put it in a small spray bottle or mix it with water and spray around windows, doorways, floor boards etc and if you want to do more place a few cotton balls soaked with mint oil around the house. This should help and it gives the house a nice smell. Pure mint extract works the best but you can use imitation extract for cheaper. Ants are kept away well with grits as well. Sprinkle some in an area where you see ants most often and they will eat them and die. Instant grits work best and if you actually see ant hills outside sprinkle some on those too.

When I was growing up in Australia we had an enormous problem with ants coming in the house. The best environmentally-friendly tip we were given was to find where they enter the house, and lay a thick (very, very thick, about half an inch in height) coating of talcum powder at that point. Ants and spiders both cannot get through the talc as it suffocates them, so after a few days they will stop using that point to enter the house. Its a bit messy but it is effective.

Well if you put black pepper down for the ants this will get rid of them ,just try and find out where there nest is scatter some around the entrance and down the hole , they will carry it into the tunnel and achoo. They will move else where. For the Spider´s they say if you have yellow lighting outside your house this stops them coming in , but don´t know if this is true .. I think if you give a good hoover where you normally see them then you´ll hoover up most of the spider´s eggs and you won´t have so many of them . But spider´s do no harm they eat all the other creepy crawlies we don´t see.and they are lucky ,they say where there is spiders there´s money ,so don´t suck all of them up leave 1 or 2 for luck

Ants become a nuisance when they enter homes. Instead of spending money on costly pest control, you can get rid of ants by removing the food source and using soap water.

You can get an item that plugs into your electrical wall socket and emits high pitched sound which humans can't hear. This is supposed to work for some bugs.

My mum has a vile of pure citronella oil which she mixes with a bit of water and puts in a spray bottle. Apparently spiders don't like it - although I have my doubts as how do they smell it ?

Conkers. Put conkers down at various points, just one here and there in corners etc.

This stops spiders.

Sounds loopy, but it really does work.
