Yes I did not learn to defend myself. But I feel in todays world its certainly beneficial to learn. The reason is simple. Crimes against women are on the rise. Women are working now so they move out of the shelter of their homes and thus become more prone to such crimes. Its always an advantage. It will never go waste.

yeah. They should take a few classes in a martial arts, and learn how hard it really is to incapacitate your average male.
Gun is a good idea, if you are willing and able to use it. But I've taken martial arts for years, and women are very rarely a match for men, even untrained men. The upper body strength differential is hideously difficult to overcome. Years of training can upset this equation, of course, but blowing a couple of weekends learning wrist locks and hoping your attacker will behave just like the guy in the films is hogwash.
Fights are weird. Nobody does what you were trained to defend yourself against. Watch two dogs that get into it over pork chop if you want some idea of what the real thing is like.
Real life fights between humans are just as chaotic. Things happen so fast you scarcely have time to react, unless your reactions (like your eyelids blinking shut before something hits your eyeball) come to you totally instinctively, you are toast if you get into it with someone who has been in it before.

yes women must learn self defence. In today's insecure world and with women becoming more and more independant, they need to know how to protect themselves. Going out late or returning back late from work should not be aa problem if we know how to protect ourselves. I strongly feel that it is a must thet every woman should know this - not to mention the self confidence it gives us.

Yes. Two main reasons: self defense techniques can save a woman's life and knowing them can also give her an air of confidence that wards off potential attackers.
Many female (and male) victims would still be alive today if they had known something about self defense.

Like 2 (only?) of the above posters said both gender should learn self defence. I, however, speaking as an extremely good street fighter with experience think it is completly useless and a bunch of baloney. Self Defence doesn't help you, it kills you with self confidence and useless moves.

yes every woman should know self defence, i feel this shoud be a part of normal school courses.
yes because for centuries women have been regarded as the weaker sex,& it's a fact that women are indeed weak because of their constitution, which is why the opposite sex doesnt lose opportunity to attack them, though vulnerable woman can learn martial arts to defend themselves n overcome their vulnerability. this is the physical aspect n mentally women r stronger yet they can stabilize this aspect also

Yes they should, but self defens or not self defense a woman still stays a woman and against a man on the street her odds are not so good even with her black belt. But its still a perk and as long as it is a last resort thing and they dont use it as an excuse to expose themself to danger any more than everybody else I see no problem.

Self Defense is good for:
Self confidence, exercise and fitness and the courage to stand up for yourself in situations where you are threatened. These are all things that both gender need.
So I doubt that being a woman is motivation. Rather the need to have the above benefits in your life.

Yes, absolutely. Self-defense breaks a woman's dependence on men for protection. Also, the obvious potential for rape.
