I am hoping to go to university sometime soon and i really want to become a teacher. I am aware i will need qualified teacher status but can i become a teacher with a english degree I am interested in teaching primary school children please help?

I recieved and English degree from my University, and am now enrolled in the teacher education program there. Talk to the academic advisors at your university to find out if there is a teacher education program. They will also be able to tell you what majors usually participate in the program.

Yes, it's a very good degree for a teacher. You have to combine your English major with education courses. You also have to be a student- teacher for 1 semester/quarter, but you can do it all in a 4 year program. Instead of a liberal arts degree in English, you end up with a bachelors in English education. All the English courses you take are the same, but you have Education requirements thrown in, too.
