Because the truth hurts sometimes - some people have lied for so long that they don't even realise they are doing it. He has some serious self esteem problems. Just tell him you don't like it and prefer him as a friend when he is being truthful with you

Sometimes people cant help themselves when to comes to lies. People always want to make themselves sound better by telling lies. This is not your problem its his. He is the one making a fool out of himself

Telling lies is a bad habit. Your friend wants to always have something to say to anyone and he always wants to be the good one. The one with kind words for everyone, good behaivours, sympathetic.

And again yr Friend may be a talker (someone who talks alot) bse most pple who talk alot are liers.

He may lie to get out of trouble, to appear the good one and someone who is always right.

I am saying that out of experience bse i oftenly lie too.

He probably has very low self esteem and desperately needs to be the centre of attention, and any attention will suffice, so he fantasizes, although probably deep down he knows he's going to be rumbled, but any attention is better than no attention. Have known a few people like this myself, and they are usually lonely losers, needing friendship, but are socially inadequate.

Either to protect himself, or he has low self esteem. Which is sad. It has become second nature to him already.

He always thinks "THIS TIME I WON'T GET CAUGHT"

Why are people always going back and forth to jail, like a revolving door. For the same reason.

If somebody is an attention seeker lying get them what they want weather it is good attention or bad attention they are getting what they think they need. The want love and or acceptance or just want to be noticed. its a shame soem people behave this way but some know no better.

He's just a compulsive liar. Sometimes it's a mental disorder, some people like the thrill of lying, and not getting caught

there could be many reasons. maybe hes so bored with his life that he has to make it seem more interesting. maybe he just exagerates everything that happens a lot when people tell stories about stuff. maybe he thinks by lying people will believe him and think hes cooler and like him more. maybe he has nothing to talk about and just starts making stuff up. or maybe hes just schizophrenic. i duno but i try to avoid having friends that lie about everything cause friendships like those always turn bad eventually

Maybe he thinks that you're better than him and wants to be more like you. He may feel that you are bragging about things and he felt upset that he wasnt as good as you. Next time something good happens to you, don't run to tell him, just drop it casually as a passing comment. He might not feel so bad then........
