The seed is the rankings. The four best teams, decided by an NCAA panel, will get 1 seeds. The next 4 will get 2 seed, and so on. There are 4 conferences in the NCAA tournament. The 1 seed plays the 16 seed, the 2 seed plays 15 seed, 3 plays 14, 4 to 13, and so on.

Simply means where a team is placed....a seed is planted in the ground...it is seeded there. A team is seeded in a specific spot is a tourney. I hoped this helps.

It just a way of ranking based on expected results

No 1 seed is the team/person expected to win.

No 2 is expected to make final

3 & 4 - Semis

5 - 8 - Quarter finals ....... etc etc

simply put, "seed" means ranking based of previous results. the better the win-loss record, the higher the seeding.
