Please don't answer if you don't actually know....If I do a functional major for an English B.S. in Ed. degree, then would it hinder getting a job at any high schools? I mean, since there is not an extra thing to put on the resume. Also, please don't answer by saying just to do a minor. I just want to know how a functional will affect getting a job. Thanks in advance.

You need to look at the requirements for a given school system.

Most require you to take certain classes to get your credentials. Almost universally required is Special Education. Some school systems may have other requirements. Illinois used to require student teaching for 10 weeks.

So check out the Board of Eduction sites for schools systems you are intending to teach in and see what they require above and beyond the BS/BA degree. These courses are even required if you have a MS or MFA
