What is your interpretation of these statements:
1. The sinners have known God's messages through the prophets.
2. The sinners knew God's messages through the prophets.

Your first sentence sounds like they have always known and still know about...
The second sentence sounds like they once knew in the past but have forgotten it by now.
I don't think I've ever used "have known" in my daily talking.

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking, but if it's the obvious then here ya go...
We have known our neighbors for eleven years.
I knew that I was going to be late for work.

Ex.
"This is my friend Bill, I have known him for ten years."
or at a funeral,
"That was my friend tim, I knew him for ten years"

"have known" is present perfect
"knew" is past tense
