its both
people are bored and lonely mostly
maybe even BECAUSE of pc's
so its nice to hear reponses from people
it helps us feel less alone
also, when its anonymous people can feel a little freer to express things which is purging sometimes

why should you really care if you look at it is a learning experience for yourself. Pick a question you have a slight knowledge base for, then do research on it and PRESTO you now know more than you did before. Also very educational if you pick a question of interest but know nothing of and do the research. WOW amazing what one can learn by helping another real or not... :-)
