There seems to be a growing opinion that America 'rode to the aid' of its mother country, to save it from defeat in not one but two world wars.

This is not an opinion I myself have. Firstly, you entered both wars (although late but we'll skip that bit) because Germany & The Japanese decided to sink your boat(s), and not to save poor little old Britain.

And Yes I'm sure Winston Churchill was delighted to have an ally with the resources at your disposal, but we had managed to hold our own at both El Alamein, The Battle of Britain, and during the Blitz, all of it alone (no thanks to the French)

Im not trying to stir up some ill feeling here, but i'm off the opinion that riding Hitler was the greatest thing our two countries have ever done, and it was done together (although Stalingrad did help)

Maybe its just because of films like saving private ryan, but we were on those beaches too, just as we are today in the middle east. If any one can prove otherwise, im all ears....

I'm Native American, so I don't consider England my mother country. We were here before they showed up. But there is a reason the nations who defeated the Nazis are called ALLIES.

in world war two...Hitler knew the Americans & allies will land on that beach in private ryan movie..but for some other reason hitler instead moved his consentrated troop to another location...the allies, if you will read your history just got very very lucky...america cannot hardly sustain another war against japan & germany...the atomic bomb was not supposed to be invented for some moral issues, but the US got desperate to end the war quick or suffer bankcrupcy & may lose the war from the japs.USA went bankcrupt before the japanese war ended, with the help of civilian donations, made more guns to invade japan.

If you're not trying to stir up ill feelings, what exactly are you looking for with this question?

Did you study history? Also it wouldn't hurt to look up the definition of "ally". Perhaps you'll see it a bit differently.

The U.S. does not profess to have defeated Hitler and his Nazis single-handedly, by any means.

without the yanks we would probably not have been on the winning side and if we were without them, mr stalin would not have made a great prime minister, forget about the films, the u boats were sinking american aid to britain before the yanks became involved with the war millions and millions of tons of it regardless what you think of them look at our neighbours not a great deal of help from any of them was there?
