I see our Republican government in America as a pendulum swinging too and fro both sides the far right and the far right that will say and do anything that will enable it to swing further in their direction. Either way both sides know that it will eventually swing back into their favor. Only 85% of Americans admit to being far left or far right so where does the rest of us 85%'ers.
