Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, Mexico City, Monterrey, Chichen Itza, Uxmal, Acapulco, in that order.

Theres nothing interesting in Tijuana, its not even very safe since thats where a lot of the drugdealing takes place in. I see those ppl who say so have not been more far than just crossing the border.

Old Peurto Vallarta is a great place to go for vacation , it has a good balance between tourist and local style. If it is partying or shopping or Scuba diving ATV outings etc. it`s all there and the locals are friendly too.
Cancun is fun but too Americanized for me.
Peubla outside Mexico City is inland in the mountains I worked there and is also nice but less tourists go there. You can buy quality pottery there beautifully hand painted pieces.

Cabos San Lucas has some GREAT beaches and is right on the water! There is also Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan, which are great resort areas, which are not commonly populated by Americans like Cancun or Tijuana

Tijuana is by far the best. Go to a donkey bar. It smells like a zoo in there and the alcohol is expensive but its interesting to watch the large breasted woman being hammered by a small horse.

Tijuana is a must.
Then I would go to Mexico City.
You will always be safe. . . ..as long as you speak Spanish.
