If it's not like crap, it's just not the way a woman would want to be treated. The chauvinistic attitude is ingrained in the culture and personalities of even the most liberal and feminist Iranian man. This is why I chose to marry an American even though I am Iranian, I would never marry an Iranian, because even if he is perfect his in laws would cause a lot of problems.

Iranian Culture Men

Many Iranians are not religious, at least not the ones in the US. Even the ones in Iran are less religious than projected in TV or in the movies.
.
So religion is not the factor, it is the culture.

The culture: Most are warm, funny and adore their wives., actually very supportive of wife and kids, love their children, especially their daughters; the culture promotes education and he would support your studying; very family-oriented, so he would care about your relatives, but expects you to care and respect his relatives according to Iranian standards; That could be problematic as Iranian standards differ from American ones.

He won't expect you to work and will be happy to be the bread-winner; however may expect you to run the household like a 50's wife.

So it would be like going back to the 50s. It all depends on you. Is that something you want or not. I would suggest discussing houshold responsibilities and roles prior to marriage. A second generation Iranian would be similar to many Americans.

Contrary to the person who posted after me, I know too many Iranian men who have made terrific husbands. But maybe I'm lucky. I come from a good family and have witnessed many successful experiences. Women in my family are as educated and progressive as the men and the men work side-by-side with their wives' at home and support their wives' education and careers.

People differ according to their upbringing. I would give your guy a chance. One should never rush into any relationship.

They have been told that the Koran says to subjugate women. Rather than actually read the Koran for themselves, they assume this is what it says. Subjugation of women appeals to some men. If someone told you that God said you should eat a piece of chocolate every Wednesday, and you liked chocolate, would you really quibble about chapter and verse? Heck no, you like chocolate, and you don't mind having a religions excuse for eating it even if you're overweight. Eating too many sweets is nowhere near as dangerous as treating women like slaves, but the analogy still holds.

Based on experience when first meet they will not tell u their real name, sweet, lovely just to pick up on u, they are actually horny, after u get to know they are not loyal, childish, ego, selfish, want your respect, will call you so call "wife" in front of his friends or stranger (when in real life u are not, which always works to keep u with him). They will chat, look, f***, sexting others as well without u knowing. They are typically not a guy to be marry with. Its just for passing time, f*** friend, waste your life time with.

I went out with one back in 1978 when they were here in this country. They were being trained to take over some of the Navy subs. I dumped him real fast. I don't walk behind any man. He tried to be abusive towards me but I had too many Navy American friends that were ready to kick his ***. They treat their own woman like ****! Stay away!

As their cattle and baby making machines, nothing more. Its a well known fact that muslims treat women as their property and not as a human with a heart and emotions.
