And what needs to be done to change it? What would be the best method to stop the peer pressure if it is a political thing?

I agree that it is mostly an economic thing, and economics rules the politics, drugs being a prescription for the wrong reasons can be a bad thing. If there is no reason for them being used other then they to make you feel good or behave better then we might as well just legalize all of them and not call them a prescription, because in most cases it is just the opposite and one never knows who will get addicted and who won't.

Honestly, it's all about money...

Drugs are political because politicians have input in creating and changing laws. The politicians are influenced by the voters, and various groups of people have different opinions about certain drugs.
I don't use any non-prescription drugs besides caffeine, but I wish the USA could change their laws--I think a lot of law enforcement time and money are wasted in prosecution of drug users, dealers and so on. There is no evidence that illegality does anything to discourage drug use. All we are doing is giving power to organized crime just like we did during Prohibition. Marijuana is not as harmful as alcohol or tobacco--I don't understand the purpose of making it illegal.
Peer pressure has to be overcome on an individual level. The individuals will have to make up their own minds what kind of people they want to be. Parents and families can help a great deal. Media and government can help somewhat with ads and slogans, but care must be taken to not overdo this--as it can be hard to take seriously when they try too hard.

The Government would really LOVE to legalize some drugs and would if they could control the revenue. Remember, the Gov. also has peer pressure. There are however organizations that are in a constant battle to find an answer to this problem.. People need to stand up for what they think is right, no matter what the situation is. Search the Internet and you can find those in the "fight".

I have seen much abuse in drugs and have tried most of them to see what they were about. I'm not hooked on any of them. I do however like to relieve stress with a dubbie and a glass of wine sometimes.

Drugs are not a solution to problems, whether legal or illegal. Money is not a solution to problems either, but people use money as status so they can do what they want. "Politics" suggest there are parties, which suggests there is divison whether in a family, in government, in work, in school, in church, in a club or wherever there are people Why do people devise methods to be in the "In" group? No one likes to be the losing party or the one exluded.

Some people "work" hard to get "in." Others know getting "in" is too hard and rebel against the winning party or those who are "In."

Do unto others as you would have other do unto you may also be taught: Do unto others before they do unto you. A new "Golden" rule is this: them that's got the gold makes the rules. Why would this version be true? There would be no need for politics, drugs, or money as a means to solve problems, etc., if there was no division.

Changing the law to allow illegal drugs won't solve the problem.

Some states legalize specific drugs for medical treatment, but most don't. Each state has the right to decide what it will allow. Some states allow a small amount of marijuana for personal use, others don't. Yes, it's politics, but that is the way our country is run. As for peer pressure, to use drugs, that's something that won't change, you just need to be stronger than your peers. There will always be peer pressure for one thing or another. Be yourself, and don't let your peers run you life. Good luck!

You can never stop peer pressure.neither can you stop what a person chooses to do when peer pressure forces them to make a good or bad choice...I personally know plenty of people that are drug users and are succeeding in life and have been for many years wheras i know many people that are drug users who have failed at everything...the Biggest problems with drugs is money,,,it takes money to make prescription drugs to make sell and distribute both legal and illegal drugs...the one thing to consider is that poor people are taking the biggest risks with drugs while gaining the least...Most drugs coming into our area are bought by rich people so they can have people sell drugs so they can live and do as they please while doing drugs for free...poor people cannot import cocine or herion or any other illicit drug ,they might grow pot anf if they are lucky they might make some money or save money by not having to buy it...The main thing to remerber about this country is that most all people that are rich control everything...they even have so many lobbists in our states government and our federal government that they really control what goes on and what laws get passed...the oil gas drug manfactures and other big industry actually control or have a large part in what goes on in our congress....Most of these companies would stand to lose millions if our drug laws where changed ...one example is that once nylon rope could be made they found a reason to outlaw the growing of any hemp for the production of rope clothes or anything else in this country by saying it was destroying our society ....alcohol is byfar a lot worse drug with a lot more problems being made because of it but it is still used daily because of the money the government and the rich make from it....the government will never stop drug use as long as there is people who wish to use them...prescription drug abuse is a major problem and could be dealt with in many ways .. the government needs to have guidlines in place that cannot be broken concerning anti anxiety and pain medications....as long as doctors can write presciptions for medicine that are not what they where originally gave fda approval for this is always going to be a problem..they need to cutback on the amounts given out at one time and require bloodwork every two weeks to make sure that the people who are given these drugs are using these drugs.the way they are suppose to be and if they aren't then they need to cutback on the amounts more or cut them off entirely. there is no easy solution to this problem because the problem is complex and involves so many diferent social groups in every country.

It's all politics when it comes down to whether or not anybody really NEEDS these drugs. Whether we're talking about harmless pot smoking or oxycontin abuse, it's obvious that many misconceptions out there claim that pot is the worst drug for you. In reality, I've seen lots of people have to go to rehab for prescription drug abuse. Why? Because they can actually be prescribed these things that they shove up their noses. My friend gets 200 oxycontin and 60 aderol every other month for "anxiety", "chronic pain" and "ADD". He doesn't exhibit any of these symptoms, and everything he gets, he shoves up his nose. Whereas I can get a bag of pot right now (at 8:30 a.m.) with no problem. There's two solutions to drug abuse problems: Decriminalize everything or make everything illegal. There's no middle ground here.

It is about the money and what the big companies have their pockets in. There are people keeping the rules the way they are and these people/organizations need to be found and stopped.

The laws aren't right and it does need to be all illegal or all legal. There isn't a middle ground and as long as we pretend there is, we will have problems..

Getting rid of the above mentioned peers is about the best way. Although that's not going to happen any time soon...

Make them legalize weed before you get rid of them though.
muwahahahaha Seriously though, Canada is doing fine with it. Why not us too?

that is excitcellent question if you ask me and peer presure happens in the work place as well. I would say the thing one thing we need to tell our kids about drugs about illegal and legal not to take anything from anyone cause it wrong and it could cause serious problems and you could be. you never stop peer presure but you can say so no to what they want to they want you to try.

Drugs should be legal only if it is used for medication and illegal if used for drug abuse since it will be a menace to the society.
