For retirement and movies. But is still considered active with the WWE. And shows up time to time like the Rock, Hogan, etc..

He made a 3 movie deal with WWE Films and Vince McMahon to make some movies. He's almost finished working on his first one called "The Condemed". He needed to focus on that so he left for a while. He won't ever come back and wrestle full time due to his knee injuries.

austin was bored! he didn't like the ideas of wwe creative, especially him jobbing for then upcoming hotshot brock lesnar...
i think it makes sense now... lesnar ditched wwe a shortwhile... if austin had jobbed for lesnar, he would have done serious damage to his wwe character...
so wise decision for stone cold.
