I used to proofread people's term papers for $2 a page. It was great because I could take a clipboard and a red pen and do it on the commode.

After one particularly bad Mexican lunch and the ensuing gastric distress, I made $46 on the can.

Back before the internet and all that, I worked for few weeks in Huntington, WV for a company that made something called the Polk Directory. Basically it's areverse phone directory; and you went door-to-door asking people to tell you their name, how many people live in the house, the telephone number, etc.

People do not like that.

I did not like it either.

At least it was outdoors. It was still better than washing dishes, bussing tables, running soom service at a Ramada in NJ, Working the fish fry at McDonalds, and the night shift at the Quik-Mart.

My first full-time job was working at a state park/farm. My duties included cleaning poop- filled water out of the duck pond, spreading pig poo under the orange trees, picking stinging caterpillers off the bushes, and watever other stupid task they could invent.
