if you are referring to a council rented property - you usually get 2 rent free weeks at Christmas and 2 at Easter, meaning that you pay rent for 48 weeks a year and not 52.
it tends to coincide with the public holiday dates which may be because staff at council offices are generally off work, and means they do not fall behind with administration tasks as they don't worry about your rent for these weeks!
