I applied to only 1: University of Arizona, and got in.

But I think five is the average.

Some advisers say to pick one that you're sure you'll get into, another dream college, and a few in between that are decent and you have a good chance at. So by them the minimum is three.

In the UK, you get a standard form that goes to almost all the universities. You can list up to five Universities on it. So by that, the maximum is five.

You can apply to as many as you want (or you can afford to) in the US. Since many have a fifty dollar application fee (U of A didn't for me because I was "in State"), I wouldn't go over ten unless you're rich.

I wouldn't go over twenty unless you have an excellent memory and love filling in forms.

You'll have a better chance of getting in if you limit the number as well. You need to write a personal statement, perhaps go through an interview, and maybe get recommendations from teachers, so you should know about the colleges you're applying for.

The average is between five and ten.

A recent (unscientific) poll indicates that the average is seven. I've included a link to that site below.

Students shooting for Ivy League or first-tier liberal arts colleges often apply to between seven and fifteen.

Students applying early decision apply to only one, and if they are admitted, do not have to apply to any more.

College admissions counselors usually recommend that students apply to a couple of "safety" schools, a few "matches" and a few "reaches." Following that well-advised strategy would result in about six or seven applications.

It is possible to apply to only one and get in if your grades are good enough.

Often people apply to five. However it is more effort in writing essays and many colleges require an entrance fee. I wouldn't apply unless I really wanted to get in that college.

It doesn't matter. You can apply to EVERY college known to man. Hell, if you don't think you'd get into any college, you should apply to a bunch of colleges. You'd have a better chance to get into at least one of 'em. If there's an essay included, use the same one to the colleges you're applying to, just change the name, etc. and you'll be fine.

the in the previous the extra effective. a brilliant milestone remaining date for making use of to college is Thanksgiving. i think of Thanksgiving is the main recent a individual can notice with any desire of stepping into college. at the same time as some human beings have been generally taking place lots later, the probability is narrow. basically think of of it like this... the college has in straight forward terms X volume of scholars they might settle for. they also have a roundabout determine of what kind of scholars they desire. for occasion, GPA greater than 3.25, extra beneficial curricular activities, an SAT score greater than 1400, etc. before each thing, they'll take people who pass that and in line with danger even slightly under that. they have sufficient spots to fill... enormously if its a state college or a community college. They sense somewhat extra obligated to honor citizens of the section/state before others. Then some months pass and the kind of admissions left are turning out to be narrow. They nevertheless have quite some purposes left. So basically now they boost the standards... now in case you do no longer meet the minimum expectancies, they'll deny you get entry to. They settle for in straight forward terms people who meet their demands of the form of pupil they desire. Now there is in straight forward terms a month left or so (aka close to Thanksgiving) and opposition is rather fierce. Now there is in straight forward terms some extra thousand spots left. Now they chosen in straight forward terms the optimum skills. They turn down people who even beat the minimum standards to get into the college. for occasion at the same time as the minimum GPA is 3.25, they're turning down 3.4 and 3.5 and admitting those with 3.9 and four.0s, etc. You get the belief. So hurry up and get those purposes in! no longer in straight forward terms does it strengthen your opportunities, yet you detect out in case you have been generally taking place faster! (aka in case you detect out you got into the college you wanted, you dont might desire to word to others)

There really is no minimum or maximum. Most seniors apply to one college that they really want to attend, and to two or three others in case they aren't accepted into that one.
