Get used to it, more and more surveillance is on the horizon. The honest truth is that you do not have an expectation of privacy when you are in a public place. If you get a ticket for speeding there is just no recourse. Speeding is illegal and if you are caught doing it you will get a ticket. The method by which you are caught has no bearing on the fact that you were violating the law. Your rewards for being a good driver are lower insurance rates for not having tickets or accidents on your record.

The solution is for people to stop putting up with it and lobby against it, in the 'ole Boston Tea Party way if necessary (a vigilante protest against taxation with out represent ion in the Colonial days).
I personally think that they are illegal as it denies a person their constitutional right to confront the accuser in a Court of Law and there are numerous instances where the devices have been found to have been faulty.
Additionally, it sends a ticket to the person who owns the registered vehicle as it has not way to identify the person actually driving. If you were not the driver (even if a friend or relative was) you can fight the ticket and win in Court (any you do not have disclose the person who was driving the car).
If enough people complain, protest tickets, write members of the congress and contact the media, it could result in the cessation of these devices.
As to a cop ever telling you "good job", that will never happen as it is not their function.

Red light cameras are great. but let me get this straight, now you want a ticket for being a good driver? Good driving is the agreement you made with the state when they allowed you to have a license and allowed you to drive. Being a good driver is reward enough. We only go after the bad ones.
