This was a huge debate when I was a kid. I started collecting Matchbox cars early. I would save my allowance for months to be able to buy the new Matchbox car down at the local "five and dime" store. Then, in the 1960's, Hot Wheels came along. I didn't like them at first, because they had flimsy wheels, were made of cheap metal and plastic and didn't look like real cars...but they had a track and you could race them! That made them a hit. Unfortunately, all of my cars were given to charity by my parents, without asking my permission. Some of those Matchbox cars were my brother's, and dated to the 1940's. Which did you collect?

I have always been partial to Matchbox. Hot Wheels cars are just to ridiculous. I always liked the more realistic vehicles Matchbox had to offer. I also think the 50state car thing they had going a couple years ago (they were kind of like state quarters but they were cars) was pretty awesome.

Yeah...you bring back good ol' memories :)

Matchbox without a doubt. I remember helping my brother save money so he could get another one to his collection. You're right, the Hot Wheels were cheap and flimsy.

I remember my favorite car was a Camero that was white with a blue stripe down the middle or two stripes down the middle? I dunno...so long ago, those sixties.

Same thing here too....my mom gave all his cars to the little boys growing up next door. ....oh well.

Fun times. Thanks for the memories! :)

I am a Hot Wheels collector. I'm all Hot Wheels. I don't know why, but I don't like Matchbox. I have over 150 cars.

my fatherand i collect hotwheels and have been for several years. the value of hotwheels is really high especially for the the ones that came out in the late '60s match box cars have good value but only the much older ones. it is a shame that they got rid of those because they would be worth a fortune right now.
