YES YES YES!!!!! Let's see half of you try to throw someone up in the air and catch them safely! Or lets see you do a round off back handspring back tuck! It takes a to to do what we do, we tumble, we jump, we throw and lift people in the air, our work out is intense and more. It's kind of like football with out the sweaty guys and ball. Football has the super bowl and cheerleading has Nationals and Regionals. Each team, like in football, try to earn their top spot in these contests.

Yes... and no.
It's one of those activities which the people who excercise it would like to call a sport, because it makes what they're doing sound more 'sporty'.
There's a similar discussion about Darts. Dart-players like to call theirs a sport, the rest of the world mocks them (not in the least because their training consists of drinking beer).
As for cheerleading: Yes, there is serious physical activity involved, but somehow that doesn't make it a sport. Are there competitions? I suppose not many.
Even if there are competitions, the purpose of the cheerleading is not to compete, be the best, win anything, or break some record.
And what good are cheerleaders without anything to cheer for? What would an olympic cheerleading contest look like?
The purpose of cheerleading is to cheer up events.
There is nothing wrong with that, and it's definitely become a tradition.
But that does not make it a sport, sorry.

I would say it depends on what level your talking about. It gets quite intense in some high schools and higher levels. Yes, I would say it is a sport.
