I agree absolutely. People can be so ignorant, and i bet most of the people that hold that view have never even met a muslim!

If you want to know why muslims are hated. Ask a christian. Ask a politician. Even ask the Media. Because those three groups make fame and fortunes on swaying peoples thoughts. (side note, i'm not Muslim, infact I'm christian, i'm just not stupid). Those three groups also are the the ones who start wars. And like always, the uneducated (And i dont mean you dont have a degree, or have documentation saying your smart) are sitting listening to all three groups, and beleiving every word because those three groups are "helping". An example ignorance is this. Christians have killed the most human beings in history, EVER. With no exceptions. The media only gives information that is profitible to them, most profit is gained from, racial/religous tensions, war, sex, and scandal. Ofcourse least profitable, Humane occurances, Help, Charity. Politicans are almost self explanitory, Goals objectives: profit/power Usually gained by endorsing "good" or "Good ideas" inwhich are very general, but only help a select few inwhich they can still profit from.
So when you ask about hatred in america, it is because most of the citizens are puppets who need information, and accept the easiest truth that comes by. It's easier to hear the media say muslims are bad and accept it, than actually picking up a Qu'ran, or talking to a Muslim. Heaven forbid someone tried to figure out the truth in america.

People who have that attitude about Muslims probably don't know any personally and they believe everything that they read in the newspaper and assume that it is representative of what all muslims are like. An example of how the press demonise Muslims is a recent murder here in Australia was reported as commited by a "Muslim teenage girl" who murdered her parents. Yet other murderers or criminals are not identified by their religion when being reported in the newspaper or on the news. I think the press are largely to blame.

Muslims are the scapegoats of this era - see Jews, Jamaicans, Catholics etc. throughout time. It seems that people have to have someone to hate. It's just a shame that the media encourages it and gives a voice to the nutters who do heinious crimes in the name of Islam and doesn't let the normal people speak. Terror is sensationalistic, moderate normal views are boring as far as the media is concerned. Live and let live - it's scary to see some of the opinions here...

Dicky,
I perform a search every week to see the list of all the Imams that have come out to denounce these 'extremists' as enemies of Islam...they'll go so far as to denounce specific acts, but the will not come out and name Al-qaeda, OBL or any fringe factions by name.
Imams are the leaders of the Islamic faith. Their refusal to openly name these groups/people as ones opposite to their beliefs is the same as acceptance.
You do see this, don't you?

It is like every other religion or minority some are bad some are good but because the human race is obsessed with scandal and "hot news" we trive to find the little percent of bad in any group so we can read about on Sunday morning - it is sickining to tell you the truth.

It's very sad that people are tarring them all with the same brush. I work with quite a few Muslims and they are happy, normal people with loving families just like the rest of us.
Having said that...
Terrorists are Muslim 'extreamists', the problem is that people don't know who to trust anymore. If you walked into a room filled with terrorists & normal Muslims it is unlikely that you would be able to tell the difference. THAT is why people are so scared.

I think what you just said is a bit of a myth. The vast majority of Muslims live in the Middle East. The vast majority support societies that are unspeakably cruel to women and non believers. (Every Middle Eastern country).
By our standards, almost all Muslims are extremists. Some who have lived in Western countries (or Turkey) have adopted our values (thankfully) but its still only a small percentage.

Maybe due to the fact that islam teaches intolerance of any other faith or Atheism. To the point of murdering unbelievers.
Even non radical islamic clerics teach this.

Because country after country that islam has taken control of introduce laws and attiudes that are downright evil towards gays and women and girls.
Full of sexaul repression, anti love, separating sexes.
Mudering girls for dating ... sorry officially executing by toture like slow strangulation or stoning to death.
Likewise people see that happening to all their gay and lesbian friends
If its a minority how do you expain sharia law courts.
Or how things like female circumcsion is often fully supported by islamic govenments.
You need to take off the rosey tinted glasses.
Just like those in Nazi Gernamny had to do who refused to belive the cubscout like movent called the hitler youth, or the govenrment who invented motorways and vw beetles could ever be a mean and nasty thing.
then you have things like the burka which separates half the population and dehumanises them
These are examples not of the actions of the odd few but whole countries
Its not the minority mate.
Its tyou who are the minority

Quote
The Taliban, under the direction of Mullah Muhammad Omar, brought about this order through the institution of a very strict interpretation of Sharia, or Islamic law. Public executions and punishments (such as floggings) became regular events at Afghan soccer stadiums. Frivolous activities, like kite-flying, were outlawed. In order to root out "non-Islamic" influence, television, music, and the Internet were banned. Men were required to wear beards, and subjected to beatings if they didn't.
Most shocking to the West was the Taliban's treatment of women. When the Taliban took Kabul, they immediately forbade girls to go to school. Moreover, women were barred from working outside the home, precipitating a crisis in healthcare and education. Women were also prohibited from leaving their home without a male relative—those that did so risked being beaten, even shot, by officers of the "ministry for the protection of virtue and prevention of vice." A woman caught wearing fingernail polish may have had her fingertips chopped off. All this, according to the Taliban, was to safeguard women and their honor.
