if you want to go by ferry that's the official site of the company.
I went to Kos last year (in august ,full season) and the journey took around 9-10 hours... prices differ depending on the date. check the site for current price list.
DON'T GO WITH G.A. ferries....... Slow and old ships, usually in bad shape.
Also for maps accommodation and what to do once you get there....
http://www.kosinfo.gr/ (for Kos with lists of hotels and almost everything there is to know.....)
http://www.rhodes.gr/portal_en/ (for Rhodes also with a lot of info about everything........)
Also you need to know that you will have to go from the airport to Peraias port by train or taxi . I recommend train because its cheaper and faster.

Both islands are daily connected to the mainland and some of the ships are fairly good, however the trip lasts rather long (i.e about 18 hours from Piraeus to Rhodes with Blue Star Ferries), therefore you may need a cabin, in which case it is more convenient (at the same price) to fly there.
If you decide to go by ferry, avoid at any cost the GA ferries, they are horrilbe and the trip could last 25 hours no matter what the schedule is.

Sure there are many ferries but Kos and Rhodes are quite far from Athens, so it takes long to get there by ferry. I strongly recommend to fly to Rhodes or Kos, and then take a ferry between them. Olympic airlines or Aegean airlines fly there every day.
The ferry costs about 42 euros to Kos per person (economy class) and it should take 8-10 hours. Make sure you check which ferry you choose, because there are some slower ones. Prefer Blue Star 2.

There are two ways to get to KOS and RHODES one is by air, check www.aegeanair.com and www.olympicairlines.com the flight from Athens to Kos is about 40 minutes and the tickets cost between 40-90Euros depending on how early you book(the earlier the cheaper).
The best ferries to get from Athens (Pireas) is blue star ferries www.bluestarferries.com/ENGLISH/defaultmain.htm the trip to Kos is about 7-8 hours and the tickets cost 30-35euros. Between the two island they are connections everyday (season time) with hydrofoil and ferries.

Aegean Air and Olympic have flights as of last summer to Kos a 40 minute flight was 92 Euros. The Kos airport is about half an hour from the island's main city and a taxi there will cost you another 20 E or so. Was there last June.

I have done exactly as you plan. Ferries from Pireus to Kos are available dailly, relatively comfortable if generally mainly used by Greeks. So beware of the standard Greek staring at the women in the party, I found this particularly off-putting when travelling with a group of females.
However hot it is during the day, its very cold at night we found out on deck, so either buy a ticket with a room or find somewhere nice and warm to snuggle-up in.

as quickly as in Venice, you ought to use a gondola to return over to Greece; heavily conversing, in case you choose to keep away from planes (there is no longer an instantaneous flight to Athens and you may ought to alter planes the two in Milan or in Rome) the final thank you to return to Greece is to seize a ferry from Venice to Patras or to Piraeus. Patras is a three-hourcontinual to Athens; Piraeus is twenty minutes via subway. you are able to disembark at Patras in case you choose to have a view of Greek panorama (the two via bus or prepare) or to Piraeus in case you choose to maintain 3 hours. in case you choose to circulate to the islands, Piraeus is a ought to, presented all ships to the Aegean Sea leave from there. in case you choose extra innovations, do no longer hesitate to touch me straight away or any of the Greek answerers. we are able to be very satisfied to be of suggestions.
