In front of house, old stone is basically gone, wnat something that will not wash away, thanks.

I prefer 'blue stone'
It has broken edges that rest 'floating' away from where ever you put it because the edges of broken stone will grip the underlying surface.

here in the u.k. 20mm gravel is popular as it's cheap, easily obtained from local aggregate/ builders' merchants/ d.i.y. stores and the larger stone is supposed to be noisier than small stone, giving a security advantage.

I would talk to the people selling it. They would know what type packs the best. It has to have flat sides to allow it to pack.

We have concrete so I have no real idea. Good Luck.
