As a conservative Christian minister, I am appalled by these ex-gay camps, which are destructive and abusive. I believe that the operators of these camps and the parents who employ them should face criminal prosecution for their physical and mental abuse of children. These camps are ungodly and inhuman, and they must be stopped. And I think that if a majority of Christians knew what goes on in these camps, they would rise up against it.

Sadly, unless there is actual physical duress in some way, there isn't much that can be done. True, what these people do to young gay and lesbians is beyond moral depravity, it unfortunately is tolerated, much like beating children was years ago. These conversion camps are actually akin to the old Soviet style 're-education' camps of the 70's, where the spirit of a person was broken down and destroyed and then re-programmed to suit the will of the Soviet State, the only difference here is that they are forcing people not only deny their own will but their hearts, in many ways far worse than even the nazi pogroms of the 40's. Terrifying stuff.

I'm a lesbian, and I don't like the idea of any person or religion attempting to tell me that I am not good enough to get into heaven unless I'm just like everyone else BUT everyone is entitled to their opinion. I don't think people should be prosecuted for running the gay conversion camps, but I think that the parents should be charged with child negligence and such for not keeping the child's best interests at heart. The terrible thing is that so many people have taken the beautiful word of the Lord and turned it into a hate filled message. Jesus loves everyone.

this question begs the presumption that Jesus Camp organizers kidnap people and bring them to these conversion camps against their will. If this is the case (with sarcastic grin) then most state laws would provide for a minimum of a kidnapping charge.

Now, if people are going to these camps of their own volition....well, then, what goes on there really isnt any of your or my business now is it???

Maybe those charges should exist if they don't already. Isn't there a similar charge when it comes to parenting?

Sounds good when typed on a screen, but in real life, the judge would probably be in on it.
