We should not even try, the people of Zimbabwe will have to sort this one themselves when it was known as Rhodesia and part of the British Empire it was at least prosperous and had a thriving economy they demanded Independence got it and promptly screwed it up. Interfering now will be like trying to pacify two drunks outside a bar we will just get a black eye for our pains. We have more than enough on our plates now. We need to put our own house in order before we interfere with anyone else.

Nobody in the West wants to do anything about Zimbabwe because it would be tantamount to admitting to an error. When Rhodesia declared independence in 1965 the world stood in outright condemnation, not even South Africa recognised Rhodesian independence. All the European socialists were adament that power in Rhodesia had to be handed over to a black majority but rather than work with the Ian Smith leadership of the time they simply wanted the white minority disenfranchised immediately and power simply given over to Mugabe and his thugs. There were black leaders around at the time who were more moderate in their views and would have done a much better job of developing Rhodesia/Zimbabwe socially and economically. However, Bishop Abel Muzowera was simply not black or socialist enough for the Labour governments of Wilson and Callaghan. For Tony Blair or any of the current Labour party's more centerist members to speak out against Zimbabwe would be a slap-in-the-face to the left-wing backbenchers and Blair cannot afford to upset them any further. Besides that when did Africa ever matter to any government in the West? No-one moved a muscle when mass-genocide wrecked havoc across Rwanda. No-one blinked when the Congo descended into a brutal civil war and no-one cares that thousands of people die everyday in Darfur at the hands of Muslim extremists. Britain only intervened in Sierra Leone's civil war because we didn't want the rebels there to gain control of the country's diamond mines. Unfortunately, Africa has to find a way to deal with its own problems but since most of the continents Presidents are all best-mates with Mugabe in their own Old Boys Club, none of them will speak out against him which gives him the confidence to carry on falsley believing that he is good for Zimbabwe and good for Africa.

If we really wanted to do something to help Zimbabwe, we could tell dubya that there is lots of oil there.Th US marines, the 82nd Airborne division and the 25th infantry division would be there on the next available B52. All preceded by a storm of cruise tomahawk missiles. Sadly there is no oil there.

Until Mugabe and his henchmen are eliminated, nothing will be done. We thought he would be the saviour of his Country but he is the harbinger of doom.
