The Browns will go one of three directions--By trading Reueben Droghns however it appears that they have opened up a roster spot to still get Peterson. Peterson is the man that they have wanted and he will be available. It depends though on the Raiders and whether they choose to draft Joe Thomas instead of Russell. If Thomas is available at #3 which he will be if Russell goes first and the Lions draft Quinn then the Browns have to give serious consideration to Thomas (the top OL in the draft) and hope Lewis can be their number 1 RB.
Their other option is going to be to draft Calvin Johnson which would disappoint all of you Bucs fans but the Browns have a serious need at WR as well. By picking up Lewis it gave the Browns room to shop but they are still looking to the future and Lewis isn't that back---He will be there to lighten the load on Peterson who as we know has had major injury issues in college and hasn't sustained a work load.
Look for the Browns to draft Peterson though and see him get 65-70% of the carries next year and Lewis be the short yardage back.

In my opinion they should and I still believe that is what they will do. The reason why i think that they signed Jamal Lewis was to give Adrian Peterson a Veteran mentor and because most teams are running offenses that utilize two running backs. Its the new trend in the NFL. Adrian Peterson is going to be the best talent on the board come draft day and I doubt the browns want to make the same mistake that the Texans did. Theres another thing, the Saints already had an elite back in Deuce McAlister when they drafted Reggie Bush but they just couldnt pass up on the best talent on the board so they drafted him anyway even though they could have used something else more than another running back and it worked out great having both on the same team.

To take all the wordyness out of all the answers and simplify, only adding one more things is Yes, the Browns will draft Peterson despite Lewis because he's on a 1 year deal, there as a temp/mentor, and the addition statement Phil Savage said when joining the Browns, We Will Be Dedicated To The Running Game

With Romeo Crennell being on the hot seat this year he needs to win quickly if he wants to keep his job. Peterson is an explosive enough player where it would be worth the shot. Peterson would be the player to draft to make the most immediate impact.... unless the Browns take a page out of the Lions book and go for Calvin Johnson to match up with Winslow and Edwards.... hey it would work in Madden

I'm also not convinced they won't take Quinn if he's available given what Notre Dame runs for an offense

Here's 3 options:
1) Since they only signed Lewis to a 1 year deal, they'll still draft Peterson
2) Pass on Peterson and draft a QB, maybe Quinn
3) Draft Peterson and use him for trade bait on another specific player they want

I say they draft Peterson, Lewis is a short term fix.

I think they should for the future. Jamal is only there for 1-yr because he's now considered an injury prone back.

If I were the Browns, I'll draft Peterson. Last year the texans knew how bad letting Bush go hurt, I dont't think the dog pound will do the same.

I might desire to consider Preston - in the event that they're smart then they'll. Jamal Lewis may be in straight forward terms 27 yet once you watch him run he's a trifling shell of himself - that's why the Browns in straight forward terms signed him to a a million 12 months deal. this manner in the event that they draft Peterson - he has a mentor. that's totally complicated for a rookie back to return in an be waiting to hold 20 circumstances a pastime. There are exceptions to the guideline - regardless of the undeniable fact that during maximum circumstances that's superb for a rookie to be secure and have the mentor. additionally the two back device is for genuine. that's all approximately longevity. that's why Julius Jones has been splitting time with Marion Barber, Corey Dillion with Lawrence Maroney, and etc. that's considered needed to maintain your older back healthful and supply him reps so he could make his settlement bonuses, as properly as letting your rookie take some hits and get some adventure under his belt. that's a technique...Rome wasn't equipped in one day.

Lewis only has a one year deal, and is no guarantee to re sign, so drafting Peterson would be a good move. The only problem is the Browns don't have a history of drafting well.

If they plan on it then YEAH. They signed Lewis to a ONE year deal. Which also leaves open that they plan to draft Peterson and let Lewis help mentor him the first year.

Yeah, it was only a one year deal anyway. Adrian Peterson is too good to pass up at the #3 spot.
