Get a Typing game. I used to play this computer game called "Dvorak on Typing", and it had drills and games, which all helped me improve my typing speed dramatically. It was fun to use. I have a typing speed of about 60 wpm.

Another way is to chat a lot to friends on MSN or the like.

Oh, just realised you said you have been in data entry job for more than 5 years! I wonder if you type with 10 fingers or just a few? That could be the limiting factor if you are used to typing with just 4 fingers for instance. Make sure you learn the proper placements.

You have to start typing using the proper hand placements first. It would be okay if you start with a typing speed of 10 wpm. Constant practice using the proper hand positions in the keyboard would dramatically improve your speed later on.

Believe me it works. I used to type using three fingers only, but when I started training in a medical transcription company that trained us to be touch typists, it works. It is really hard at first but constant practice helps a lot.

I didn't enroll in any typing school either. Just my eagerness to learn more. I don't think it would be a problem for you, too, since you have that desire to improve on your skills. Typing withouth looking at your keyboard would also improve your speed; that would only be possible once you get so familiar with the proper hand positioning

practice, practice, practice. Sit down for about 15 - 20 minutes per day with a book and start typing the book on your computer. Slowly your typing speed will increase.
