Thanks again everyone. He's now at my house, watching ESPN, whining about the NCAA basketball tournament, so I think he's good. That and the 5 hour nap he got really helped..

Thanks alot everyone..

tell him to sit quietly and breathe from his stomach mouth closed and out through his nose, deeply slowly. get him to focus on something that is a distraction, reciting the alphabet in his head over and over, anything continious. Just let him take the time he needs to come through it, he will, but it will take time, good luck

He doesn't need to go to the hospital. Remind him to do his breath work. you can help by sitting next to him and breathing in through your nose and out out through you mouth slowly as to not hyperventilate. Rub his back it should be over in a few minutes.

Get back to us OK or we will be worried.

Give him a small paperbag to hold over his nose and mouth and tell him t breathe through it. When he repeatedly breathes in what he breathed out -that will calm him down.
This is what they do in 'emergency' when patients hyperventilate.
