I don't think that would help at all. You can buy and education but you can't buy intelligence. I think they should all be made to hold down a normal job prior to politics so they understand what effect their policies will have on people. The problem is that most politicians go straight from school to university to politics and never work a day in their lives. They then try to tell people that they understand what they are going through.

Senior Citizen - A lot of education is simply memorising facts and figures and has absolutely nothing to do with real intelligence. Being able to apply your education in a practical sense is where the intelligence side kicks in. There are plenty of idiots who make it to university.

Most national politicians already have college educations from the finest institutions this country has to offer. They havent really done a good job lately, so..."No. I dont think a college degree is necessary."

Amazing, the responses. Why on earth would anyone feel that lawyers and businessmen shouldn't be in politics? Or that you can't buy intelligence? College students, or their parents, pay thousands of dollars to advance their knowledge (knowledge equals intelligence) and they don't even get to do that unless they can prove that they have gained enough knowledge to qualify for college entry. And college is just the beginning. Don't even think about a law degree unless you have a bachelor's degree and top grades.

All business and law schools teach ethics, even though the course may not be named "ethics". Many faith based universities require courses in religion and ethics.

Not only do they need college degrees, but they need ethic schooling as well. They should not have a law degree either or be involved in big corporations. That is what is there now and they are ruining this country. The only schoolling they really need is one in COMMON SENSE.
