Its everyone dream to be stranded on a deserted island with a bunch of strangers fighting it out to win a million dollars.

I think people use television and media in general to escape from their own lives and problems, not just one reality show..
Exactly why I don't bother buying cable or sattelite. Its not worth it, the reality shows are almost always scripted somehow anyways, so why bother.
I would rather put my imagination to use and find ways to better my own life than vicariously living through someone elses experience.

It's appealing to many since it has elements of adventure, competition, greed and human interaction. It's escapism but it's much more healthy than shows that try to create appeal on the basis of sex and violence.
