Well depends, if you are looking to do plastering and have no qualifications, then YES will will need to get qualifications, if on the other hand you want to be the man in the office, pushing a pen around as such-and employee plasters, then I don't think you need qualifications.

You will aslo need to take out public liability insurance, to cover you against accidents or being sued.

But remember, being self employed has its downsides too.

If you don't work then you do not get paid, and cannot claim unemployment benefit, and only sickness benefit should you fall ill.

You will need to keep books and records of any work you do, have letterheads, business cards, and invoices.

Unless you open an account with a builders merchant you will not get trade price for your materials.

You will need either a business bank account, or a sole trader account.

But having said all that, being selfemployed can be very rewarding.

No, as long as you can plaster you can start up self-employed.
however don't dismiss the benefits of getting relevant qualifications - you can advertise the fact that you are qualified so customers are more likely to trust you, and you may get discounted liability insurance too.

no you dont need any qualifications to do plastering or to go on site all you need is a cscs card to go on site if you are working for some one you dont need no cards or anything only hard hat, boots, high vis jacket, if you want to go on your own i recommend you go with a qualified plasterer for a year so you know abit about the job ok

However, in Florida, all construction contractors must pass a competency examination to obtain licensing. These tests usually have little or nothing to do with the trade(s) themselves, but deal with the legalities.
