windows advantages = runs most commercial software and most games without too many problems, relatively easy to understand
windows disadvantages = costs a lot of money, attracts lots of viruses and such

other OS's advantages = makes other people think you are a computer expert, can be free, possibly less virus problems
other OS's disadvantages = usually not as easy to use or learn to use and difficult or impossible to run popular commercial software on it.

oh, and of course there's mac but as far as I know to run MacOS you need Mac hardware so it's not a really a choice unless you have or are getting the hardware to go along with it...

I don't agree with windows crashing more than other operating systems... this may have been true in the windows95/98 era but hasn't been tru since windows 2000 and is definitely not true about windows XP

Mac OS is easy, runs seamlessly, is less vulnerable to viruses, and is beautiful.

Linux can be free, it's open-source, you configure it however you want (it can have a beautiful graphical environment or be text-only)

Windows is expensive, restrictive, but will run most commercial software. It crashes all the time and is very vulnerable to viruses.
