If you have the Wingdings Font (which you probably have on a standard install) Insert>Symbol. On the Font drop down list of the Symbols Tab, select the Wingding Font. There are special characters in that font that include the numbers 1-10 inside a circle.

For a quick solution and if you only want numbers from 1-10, you can select insert from the menu and then symbol. If you select wingdings from the drop down font menu, you can then select the number in a circle with the insert option (cancel to remove the insert menu from the screen). Hope this helps.

Insert an oval autoshape. Resize it to the size that you want. Then right click on it, choose Add Text. Put your cursor in the circle and you should be able to type anything inside the circle.

Draw your circle using the oval from the draw toolbar, then put a text box inside the circle. Put your number in side then double click on the frame of the text box and select 'no line' under the colour of the Line. Doh, just tried crazy Gi suggestion which is better, I didn't know you could do that thanks!

You can also use "insert" "symbols" and change the text to wingdings, or webdings and you will find little sircles with numbers in them ready to insert. it works great if you use it for numbering paragraphs.
