As mentioned previously, the only reliable means is abstinence... the pill is only about 97% effective. Weight gain is possibly associated with the hormonal effect - there are non hormonal devices such as the IUD - the coil. Best bet is to discuss with your local GP / doctor. The condom is about as effective as the pill, if you combine it with spermicide and take into account the time of the month (some days being more fertile than others). In addition, it;s worth remembering that the pill / coil etc don't protect against sexually transmitted diseases.

I think any hormone contraceptive makes you gain weight. I had meriniam coil fitted for menapause and although it has been great I have gained stone. So I can understand where you are coming from and I to am struggling to loose it.
You can have an ordinary coil but I am sure they like you to have had a child first.
Cap is another with spermaside.
You are still young enough to try the Brook for advise they are exellent for advise on contraceptiona and helped my daughter no end as she had this problem. They found a pill more suited to her in the end.

There are a number of options. Barrier methods of course, the sheath, cap or femidom. These do all have small fail rates and are not always aesthetically pleasing.
Leaving aside change of pill type which might help, you are then left with other hormone methods, such as injectables or implants, which may also cause weight gain, and coils.
Coils divide into standard copper, not suitable unless you have had a vaginal delivery, and progesterone, which are better but technically are only supposed to be used for moderate to long term, due mainly to their cost.

There is also a weight issue with the contraceptive injections. The only other alternatives are the coil and condoms. As no contraceptive is ever 100% effective there are little options to this problem. Condoms are your best bet.

For goodness sake hunni stay away from the iud (coil) I know many people who have had big problems as I have myself. i had it put in 4 months ago and bled heavily every day since. I put on weight noticed i had excessive hair growth on my face, mood swings and I began to loose pieces of skin underneath. Thankfully I had it removed on Wednesday but on Thursday morning and I woke up to a blood bath I had hemorrhaged Its is an evil device that can also lower your chances of conceiving by 50% just be careful tho hunni cos it is the health services preferred option and they are to quick to put them in, but if you need it out they are extremely reluctant although its your body and you clearly know if something is unsuitable for yourself. I would advise to go onto the mini-pill its a lot safer and at least you know that you wont need surgery to remove the bloody thing if it gets lost. Good luck babe whatever u decide just make sure you research all options before choosing one that you THINK will do.

If you go to your doctors they can tell you all the available pills you can get. There are quite a few to choose from. You can even look it up on the internet i have done so before. You dont have to take a pill you can have a chip implanted inside your body which is not painful (dont sound as bad as you think) you can have injections.

I've had this problem with pills. The only pill you don't put weight on with is Yasmin. This is quite a new pill, very hi-tech, and it's quite good. Ask your doctor about it.

I am not on the pill or injections because I have high blood preasure and I don't want to gain any more weight. I use charting. You just write down each period, your temp. each morning and your cervical mucous. Before long you will know your body and what day you are most fettile, what day you ovulate, and which days to advoid sex. I use this method along with condoms and it works great for me.

My cousin has the delivery administration implant (i'm no longer too particular what that's called, yet you would possibly want to ask your physician), that's only a rod in her arm that forestalls her getting pregnant for decades. you should attempt it, it worked completely for her.
