Yah they do smell.
We have sweat coming out of our body from all the parts. But the feet is one area which sweats a lot compared to any other part of the body ( armpits also sweat a lot ). The reason why the sweat stinks is because, once you sweat the bacteria would love this and start feeding on the sweat. Once the bacteris feed on the sweat they do excrete, the excrete is what stinks a lot. So if your Socks stink, it is because of the bacteria excrete. And your socks and shoes are comfortable places for them and they have the luxury of less sunlight and a damp condition.
So to avoid the stink in your socks
Change it after single use.
If still your feets smell, use a bit of talcum powder inside your socks before you wear them
Regularly let fresh air to your shoes and socks
Put the shoes in sunlight for a while for the bacteria to get destroyed.

yes, in generally socks are smelly .
Only the thing is that the smell of socks differs from person to person.

If you wear them more than once .... just be sure they are washed clean and rinsed well !!! All the soap must be washed out because it still has the dirt from the sock. Even if you decide to wash them twice, still rinse them well, because you don't want soap residue on your feet. Then either dry them in a drier or near a radiator, or hang them out in the sunshine which will give them a fresh scent.
The thing to do is: keep your feet clean!!! Be sure to wash them at night and brush them gently with a nair brush or foot brush which you keep for this purpose. Be sure to dry them well and don't forget to dry between your toes!!! Anytime you want to wash them during the day is fine, but especially at night to keep your bed sheets clean.
