Hey I am a qualified holistic therapist and just thought I would give you a bit of feedback from some of my clients following IHM...one lady complained of quite achey muscles in her shoulders the following day...obviously caused by the manipulation of muscles and it cleared up quickly...others have reported headaches, feverishness, tiredness, sense of euphoria, shivering, feelings of relaxation and peace. Most after treatment reactions are quite harmless and usually clear up very quickly to be followed by a sense of well being, de stress and calm. good luck with your course by the way xx

They can sometimes make you feel relaxed and sleepy, other times refreshed and revitalised depending on the technique (and oils (if any) that are used). I am studying Indian Head Massage at the moment too, it is important that both the client and the indian head massage practitioner remove their shoes; this is so that energy can flow freely and you remain "grounded". You can incorporate crystals and chakra work into your treatment to help with this too. Some people say they sometimes feel "spaced out" after a treatment, this is to do with the release of toxins and also a result of not being grounded. It has fantastic health benefits and as a student yourself I am sure you will be aware of these! : ) One other thing I have noticed is an immense thirst after treatment, and even the day after a treatment too, this is your bodies way of ridding the body of toxins which have been released. Good luck with your course, enjoy!

Hiya, i also studied Indian Head last year the most common effects i knew of were heightened emotional state and migraine. As for the massage i think its one of the best of all holistic therapies, very nice! I also used to feel lethargic the next day.

Yes, and I do IHM on people regularly.
Lots of different results, people generally have different experiences due to their own experiences of previous massage, what they think will hapen, what they concentrate on, what you warn them about, etc.,
I do find though that sometimes warning people of the effects that massage does may actually auto-suggest the outcome of the massage, but you do have to warn them.
Have fun and enjoy it, just don't get too carried away with all the chakra healing stuff, as most people think you're a wierdo when you offer it!

I've both carried out and received IHM. when giving it the results of my clients have been varied, ranging from falling asleep to feeling dizzy and sick. My reaction to giving it is one of complete relaxation, although not quite as relaxed as when receiving it! I've also found it to be great at getting rid of headaches.
Once you've carried out a few you'll get a wide variety of responses from clients.

It was so relaxing I nearly fell off the chair afterwards. I could have easily gone straight to bed and slept for hours.

Don't know much about it even as a massage therapist.

Just remember: Do NO harm, and you'll be OK

Yes, I had to have one as a 'treat' arranged by the faculty I work for. Actually, it was a ploy to try and persuade me to be less critical of the fact that our college teaches pseudo-science and rubbish like Rikki and Reflexology.
I can't say it did much for me. But it was hilarious to see the look on the face of our head of faculty, whom we long suspected wore a wig, when he was offered one!
