The saying went, "Left is right and right is wrong." But I haven't heard that used seriously since about 1992.

Yes... there is always the exception ,but in the gay circle multiple right ear rings,or a single ear ring in the right ear is a hidden clue, such as rainbows are, weather a logo on a shirt or rainbow tattoos, which we call a pride tatt..i have a tattoo with a rainbow triangle in the center and the only comments i get are from strangers who are gay, male or females, who say nice pride tatt, the rainbow triangle is only noticed from others in the gay community, most straight people just think its a rainbow..

not sure about that one because now days I see a lot of men with both ears pierced, and they seem to be straight, unless they are Down Low brothers.

The rule used to be straight men wore their earring in their left ear, and gay men wore theirs in the right.
But nowadays, everybody--gay and straight--wear them in both ears. So, I guess that kills that.

I haven't heard of any distinguishment since the early 90's. I really don't think it matters anymore. I have both of mine pierced.
