Yes, gay marriage should be allowed. It's a mix of religion and politics to say that two of the same gender cannot love each other and want to commit to each other. Government is not supposed to endorse any particular religion, and to say homosexuality is wrong is supporting religious views from a good number of large religious communities. And to say, "well homosexuality is okay, but marriage" is not enough. I think the big businesses (especially insurance companies), don't want to have to extend coverage to same-sex partners, and have lobbied along with the religious fanatics to have it banned. It's wrong to ban it, in my opinion.

What I want to know is why all these people preaching about marriage and how "Sacred" it is, still allow celebrities to get married. When in fact Celebrity marriages on average last less than 1 year. Look at Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez for example. Neither of them have had any sort of marriage that fits into the Religious Right's vision of this "sacred institution." They marry for image. But oh, it's soooooo "sacred." Give me a break. No matter how much Bible Thumpers what you to believe it, there is NOTHING sacred about marriage anymore. It lost that a LONG time ago.

So to answer the question, yes I support gay marriages because they REALLY love each other. They don't get married for image like celebrities, they don't get married because one of them got the other pregnant. They get married for LOVE. Seems to me that many people regardless of class status, social status, celebrity status, or sexual orientation need to learn what LOVE is before they start preaching about the "sanctity" of marriage.

I'm from Massachusetts. It's completely legal here and is proving to be absolutely no threat to heterosexual marriage whatsoever. Of course it should be legal throughout the U.S.

In Canada it already is.

Yes, I'm in full support. However, it is not marriage! Its a civil ceremony - people keep getting this confused. A civil ceremony is not in the eyes of God, it is only getting recognition of your relationship and obtaining the " legal rights" that you get with marriage.
So all these religious dictators should get their facts right and mind their own business.

Yes i do support it. I want to marry my boyfriend, it isnt allowed here in Italy. There should be no law on telling people they cant be together.

I agree with Siren. She nailed it.

And the "What's next, people marrying animals?" argument is really old. Animals can't give consent to marry or have intercourse, so that question is completely nonsensical. Grow up.

Why can't people let people be. I think being in love and marring, is a lot better then hating. Also it might help cut down on the AIDS.
