Chances are if they are both hanging off of a cliff , they were rock climbing. All rock climbers use proper harnessing so I think they are tied together. So I get to save them both.
If that is not the case then I would save the stranger.

I really don't believe this question can be answered truthfully by anyone. You may think you would save your pet first or perhaps the stranger first, but unless we are in the middle of the crisis,we really don't know what we would do.I would hope to save both.Life is a precious thing, all to often taken for granted.

My pet because they couldn't hang as long as a human could, and besides they are both small, so it would be quick and easy. Then I would grab the stranger. Does that make me a bad person? Oh well...

The total stranger.
Frankly, an animal hanging off a cliff ...... that is HIGHLY IMPROBABLE THAT WILL HAPPEN. An animal, pet or otherwise is highly capable & adaptable to overcome this predicament.
A person hanging, would definitely need more help.
I couldn't live with myself knowing that I let someone die without trying to save them..... and I rescued my pet FIRST over them. A human life always comes first.

I'd save the total stranger first.
What would you say to the stranger's mother, son, daughter, or spouse if you let him or her die for the sake of a cat or a dog? Would this endear you to them? I don't think so.
Besides, we humans are all part of an extended family and we owe each other a little help now and then.
Also, don't forget that the Golden Rule always applies. Are you more important than a pot bellied pig?
I think so.
Good Luck!

I assume I would be able to save them both? Which ever one looked to be in the most danger. (I would secretly want to save my dog first, but I know I'd have a hard time doing so with the stranger watching.)
