Seriously... can they?

Hello Jennie, yes, scientists seemed to have confirmed this. I read somewhere years ago (I think from Scientific American or Discover Magazine) that a team of scientists performed some sleep/dream experiments on mice. The scientists found out that mice were also subject to REM during their sleep. REM, or Rapid Eye Movement, is the state where the eyes flutter under the eyelids during sleep. Humans do this while dreaming. If you've seen a baby do this, it means the baby is dreaming. Scientists did their measuring in tangent with wires attached to the head in order to measure brain waves during sleep, and also to help identify which part of the brain is active during sleep.

I have searched the web, and the link I provide below gives scientific weight to my answer.

yes in short, and yes in long answer as well. dreams are the effect of your brain filing away the short-term memory banks made through out the day into your long term memory. sometime this will awaken other long tem memories. either way, it is natural in animals with a large enoguh brain to have a concept of things that once happened(almost all mamals can dream, but snakes, and otehr reptiles rarely have a large enogu brain, and insects definately don't)

If you had a dog like mine, you would know animals dream. Mine has very active dreams of chasing things through the woods (I'm speculating on what the dreams are about, but that seems right since that is what she does when awake!). Her legs move; she yips; her eye lids wiggle over her active eyes.

I'm pretty sure that dogs dream, I've seen them trying to run in their sleep. Probably dreaming about cars. I bet they wake up right when the car hits them.
I dream practically every moment I'm asleep, which is extrememly annoying.

Yes,because animals have complex dreams and are able to retain and recall long sequences of events while they are asleep.
