I've heard of putting clear nail polish on fake jewelry so it wont fade. But I wouln't run water on my real jewelry. You can get calcium deposits or other mineral deposits on your jewelry. Try not to run any of your jewelry under water often.

Doesnt nailpolish chip? Why would you want that on your jewelry, fake or not? Why no try dipping it in some wood varnish, or maybe resin (its like liquid plastic, its liquid until it dries into a plastic-like material, which can be used as a protective coating)

you might want to get those kind of cloth [ looks like those cloth use to clean spectacles ] which is specially for cleaning silvers / accessories . the black black stuffs , or dirty stuffs deposited on the accessory , can be wiped off . this also allows it to look shinier
