I'm filling out job applications and don't know who to use for personal references, and I need to think of 3. I can't use relatives or past employers. Are coworkers acceptable? There aren't really many other people I can think to use.

I think co-workers are acceptable and expected. Be sure to ask the person first so they will not be taken by surprise when called. But I have put co-workers and friends down and then asked them after I got the job if they received a call and never had one say "yes" so I think that employers maybe do not call references...but I could be wrong so don't count on it.

past employers are automatically your job references..anybody from the human resource will do. they are the ones who can testify about your recent work...you can't use relative, friends or coworkers. they are not the reliable source for employers.

otherwise you can include there your principal or mentor in school, or one of the immediate government officials in your locality who knows and can testify you belong to his community. that makes two, so you only need one more...dude, try one of your recent employers. otherwise they will ask you why there was not even one employer in your reference during your interview..so why is it?

best of luck!

Someone you know who strikes you with a great first impression. Just ask that person, coworkers should work just fine. Past teachers, role models, or someone you have done busines with frequently and personally would do to.

do no longer record your present day employer as a reference in case you have no longer recommended them. maximum purposes will ask you in spite of if this is okay to touch present day employer. As for the references, i could propose sending 3 own, and 3 enterprise. this could conceal all your bases, and teach which you will persist with instructions!!

You can't use past employers???

Wouldn't those be the most helpful people for the possible future employer?
