need to find height of 20 gallon tank that has a length of 24" and a width of 16"

The volume of a tank is calculated by the formula

V = LWH

Since we know the volume (gallons, or inches cube), the length (L), and the width(W), just plug each value in and solve for H.

20 = (24)(16)H

20 = 384H

H = 20/384 = 5/96 inches

I don't have a volume chart, so I have to use the metric system.

1pt = 0∙568L
Volume = L x B x H
Volume = 24" x 16" x H
But 1in = 2∙54cm
→
Volume = 24"(2∙54) x 16"(2∙54) x H(2∙54)
Volume = 60∙96 x 40∙64 x 2∙54H
Volume = 6292∙632576H (cm²)

1pt = 0∙568L
1 gallon = 1pt x 8 = 0∙5686L x 8 = 4∙544L
1 gallon x 20 = 4∙544L x 20
20 gallons = 90∙88L
20 gallons = 90,880 cm^3

6292∙632576H (cm²) = 90,880 cm^3
H = 90,880 cm^3/ 6292∙632576H (cm²)
H = 14∙44222 861 cm
H = 14∙44222 861 / 2∙54 ins.
H = 5∙685 939 41 ins.
H ≈ 5∙69 ins.

Ah the perils of the English system of units. Find the volume of one gallon of water. Multiply by 20. Convert to in^3, divide by length and width to get height.

1 gal = 231 in^3

20 gal = 4620 in^3

divide by 24 to get 192.5

divide by 16 to get 12.03125 in height

there are 231 cubic inches in 1 gallon. therefore the tank has a volume of 231 * 20 = 4620 cubic inches

volume = lwh
4620= 24*16 * h
4620/24(16) = h

you should be able to work out the arithmatic.
