It is all about flexibility.

I went through an accredited "brick and mortar" university's distance education Master's program (Education). I was able to work full time while going to university.

In order to attend a Master's program while working before distance learning, teachers had to travel every weekend and spend summers on campus. This was biased against female teachers, who (fairly or unfairly) carried more family responsibilities than male teachers.

1) you learn at your own pace, anytime 24 hours
2) you can get immediate access to info in internet
3) save your money
4) no need to buy new cloths, u can wear yr pyjama during lesson
5) you can hide yr hideous face (no need face-to-face meeting with other students & lecturers)
6) save yr time when u attend the class but the lecturer is boring
7) paperless activities... save the forest!
