i do not want to pay anyone to host my site for me. it's expensive and they usually don't give enough space. sites charge around 10 dollars a month and you only get like 5 gigs of storage.
my computer is always on and has almost a terabyte of storage. and i think i have unlimited transfer. hosting companies limit the amount of data transfer to and from your site per month. I want to avoid these limitations and costs.
I realize that I will still have to pay for a domain name but that is very cheap. i can afford the 8 dollars a year for that.
I've heard a lot about IIS but i cant seem to install it. when i go to add/remove programs and click add windows components, IIS nor application server isn't showing up.

First of you need XP Pro to use IIS. Second, you need a static IP address which you probably do not have unless you have a T1 line and are paying over $100 a month for internet service. You would probably be better just paying the monthly fee for hosting when you add it all up.

As an alternative you can get free ad supported hosting when you register a domain and then you wouldn't have to pay the monthly fee. http://www.dakotawebhosting.com provides the free hosting with domain registration.
