Yes, it is possible to own a monkey in Australia. I know of a couple. One place to try might be a wildlife park near Warnambool called Cudgee Creek Wildlife Park. I know they breed them, and I have known of someone who was planning to buy one from them. I am not up on my exotic laws, but I would be fairly certain that you would need an exotic license. I actually saw one for sale recently at www.petlink.com.au

Monkeys are not good pets. To get one, you will have to take a long course to get a license to own one. The licenses are mandatory if you want a pet primate or you can be fined a hefty amount. Also, monkeys belong in the wild. My aunt used to have one and it ran around her house and bit people.

No. It is cruel to keep monkeys as pets as they are social animals & live in family groups in the wild.
Also, in order to get the cute babies for the pet trade the dealers kill the mothers & drag the screaming babies from them for sale to unsuspecting people.
If you see monkeys for sale, report it to the police.
